Archaeology Sept. 11-15, 2024
Our archaeological efforts will continue on September, 11-15, 2024. We will focus on the stockade walls that have been discovered and the exciting find of the gate. Students from Pocahontas County Middle Schools will be given an opportunity to experience archaeology that directly relates to their history and curricular standards.
Students will be on site September 11-13, and we will welcome volunteers and visitors on September 14-15.
These excavations are supported by the Appalachian Forest Heritage Area, Pocahontas County Landmarks Commission, Durbin Lions Club, and the Marlinton Lions Club.
Private tours of the site and museum will continue to given and can be reserved at fortwarwick@gmail.com or by calling 304-456-4815.
Fort Warwick is located at 450 Fort Warwick Passage, Green Bank, WV 24944
I just read about this in the Gazette. I’ve never heard about this place before. I hope to be there in June.
Look forward to seeing you!
I have always wanted to participate in an archaeological dig. How would I find out when you would need volunteers to help?
We have had a fishing camp very close by for 50+ years and would have no problem with participating for several days at a time.

Bob Sheets possesses a wealth of knowledge about the period during which the fort was operating and he shared just a fraction of it when we visited this week. It was an early stop during a motorcycle ride to explore Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The site contains a large number of artifacts unearthed during various archaeological digs involving students from elementary school through graduate school. My time with Bob was fascinating and I highly recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in learning about the fort or related topics.
Really enjoyed spending time with a fellow rider and history fan.
